October 4th
We are into October now, and as predicted the weather has been a little stormy. We are mainly having days of sunshine and showers, but some of the showers are major downpours, and the wind in quite brisk at times.
We have had the usual work routine this week, though Nicky has not been as busy as she expected at the library. The schools are on holiday which usually means more issues to deal with and people to attend to, but not so this week. Maybe the weather has kept them home. I have had a little Mac work and some massage work but it has been generally a quiet week. Claire has been to and fro to campus as usual, and had a friend over on Wednesday and made cookies (which we have all enjoyed eating).
Big highlight of the week as been the opening of a new supermarket in New Lynn, opposite where the new railway station is being built (you can tell it's a slow news week can't you). It is a branch of New World, which scores in Nicky's book as they are NZ owned, whereas Foodtown where we usually shop is Australian owned (not quite as bad as French but getting close). Also, being freshly built it is a nicer shop that many of the other supermarkets, a lot of which as less inviting than Aldi. Claire and I did a shop there on Thursday and were suitably impressed, so I will patronise it for awhile and see how the bills go. They look like they might have a better deli area than Foodtown. Cold meats and the like are something we have been disappointed in here compared to Sainsburys.
On Saturday we saw Steve twice - in the afternoon for a game of Scrabble and then in the evening with Ros for diner at Paul and Jenny's with Doug and Naomi in attendance. All the visiting ladies made suitable noises about Naomi's engagement ring and Paul was able to provide us with a commentary on the building of their new deck. We had a very good evening, with excellent food and company. Claire hadn't been to work with having had a very poor night's sleep on Friday night, but seems fully recovered now.
Today we have had a quiet day, Claire studying, Nicky ironing and cooking, and me working my fingers to the bone making sure my comfy chair still works.
Bye for now,
Rick
