Thought you all might like to know a little more about the area of Auckland we are living in, so mainly pictures in this update. Walking down to the end of our driveway, which is about 75 meters and looking to the west gives you this view, towards New Lynn: New Lynn is where we do most of our shopping. It has a mall, the first to be opened in Auckland, other shops around it, railway and bus stations. It is about a 5 minute drive and 25 minute walk. Walking towards New Lynn and then looking back to the east along Matata Street towards our house gives you this view: The main road at the eastern end of Matata Street is Blockhouse Bay Road, which as you can see is a long straight road: Just over the hill (we are looking north here) where the road disappears are some traffic lights, from where you can see Sky Tower. Downtown Auckland is about a 20-25 minute drive outside the rush hour. Walking south along Blockhouse Bay road takes you a roundabout with a small selection of shops, and a sign...

It's quite warm really, under my four layers.

It isn’t really November, or if it is the November were have been getting this week has been more than a touch influenced by its cousin in the Northern hemisphere. It has been more cold and wet than warm and sunny. I have had to bring all my laundry skills to bear to get the washing dry outside, and not entirely succeeded. The ironing, being a completely  indoor activity, has been easier. Nicky did some water blasting at church on Monday and got thoroughly chilled to the bone. Mary came over in the afternoon and stayed and watched The Chase with us while Nicky warmed up with pots of tea. On Tuesday she had to quickly zip into town for a training course after arriving and work and discovering she was in the wrong place, but the rest of her working week has been much more normal. My working week has been very quiet, with no paid work at all, but a number of phone calls and emails to deal with. The natives are restless

It’s the weather. Summer is not getting it together at all, especially towards the end of this week when we have had a major storm system bringing rain and high wind. In fact it is the wind which is the most noticeable feature at the moment. Even when it is warm and sunny, if you don’t get out of there wind it is tiring and chilly. However, this does mean when it isn’t raining I can get the washing dry in a couple of hours. This doesn’t stop the natives complaining though. The library has continued to be busy with the schools being on holiday, and I have had a moderate amount of work. Our local telco has changed some of its security systems and that is causing some of my customers to have issues. We have had dinner on the Rattigan a couple of times, and a few visits from Jancis. Our evenings have been occupied watching The Level, which was shown as five episodes from Sunday to Thursday.
