Blursdays
It has been one of those weeks where most of the days didn’t feel like the right day of the week, until now. I have finished sailing for the week and I’m sitting down with a fresh cup of tea to write the blog. It must be Sunday afternoon. The weather has been behaving though, with most days having that beginning of summer feel. We have had a couple of dull starts and a little light rain on Thursday afternoon, but warm temperatures and sunshine too.
Our usual commitments have been punctuated with a few extra events. A urology appointment confirmed that I do not have prostrate cancer. While I was relieved, the internal investigation left me feeling a bit delicate for the rest of the day, so I didn’t go to work.
Nicky had a fun evening out for the annual Bible Friends Christmas play. Their nativity play used the structure of a daytime television quiz, and Nicky’s home group helped with the food.
Another enjoyable event was a lunchtime Christmas BBQ at Dale and Bob’s home on Wednesday. They will be visiting family over Christmas and New Year so decided to have a Whanganui gathering earlier. After excellent sausages, a couple of glasses of wine and a mug of coffee I was ready for an afternoon snooze. We had provided a spud and bacon salad and ate so well that we just had a light snack in place of dinner. This sustained us through the quiz evening, where we came 10th with 80 points.
The last Community Kai of the year at the marae on Thursday was a much noisier event than at last month’s Kai, but not as bad as last year. We got to talk to some people that we hadn’t met before (as well as regulars) along with enjoying the food. This month’s fashion talk at the museum was also as good as usual on Friday. Afterwards Nicky collected me from the wharf following our morning sailing. We had afternoon tea in the garden while enjoying the flax and the trees:
Nicky had a good day at home yesterday while I did two sailings. She brought the Christmas tree in and set it up but we are yet to decorate it. Her morning at church was very busy today as she had been triple-booked on the roster. My last sailing of the week was uneventful.
We have been enjoying watching more episodes of Ludwig on the streaming service and may continue to do so this evening.
Take care, Rick and Nicky.
