Cleansing

Cleaning and cutting have been my main occupations this week. I have washed the outside of the house, and cleaned all the windows inside and out. I have also been able to cut the berm and the grass in the back garden. These tasks needed to be done in between the rain that has fallen this week, which has also impacted the laundry. Wednesday turned out to be our best day for drying laundry on the line, so Nicky put the washing machine to good use. We did better at the quiz this week: 3rd with 104 points.

In addition to her usual commitments Nicky also undertook hospital visiting this week, and had a Small Group Leaders training meeting afterwards. On Thursday, before going off to Aramoho Library, she prepared cinnamon swirls. These are not dissimilar to a cake tin full of Chelsea buns, but not so sweet. These were for the shared meal at the marae, so Nicky cooked them upon her return. I made a bacon and pork flan, which we baked at the same time. Both were enjoyed.

Ros called in on Friday afternoon after her Andrew London tour finished at Bushey Park, and she was on her way to Taihape.

We have had a skipper for the paddle steamer this weekend, and the weather has been good, especially yesterday. Nicky went to a surprise 80th birthday lunch for Jack (who runs the Jigsaw Exchange) at Caroline’s Boatshed yesterday. Today she enjoyed church more than usual as she had no responsibilities. The Galley Manager on the boat left us today, so I joined the rest of the crew for a drink at a local brewery after work to farewell her. Nicky kindly picked me up afterwards and just after we got home Eleanor and Jack called in to deliver some of his birthday cake. Nicky had missed out yesterday with having to collect me from the wharf.

The warm and sometimes damp weather has encouraged the garden. Our “junior” flax in the front garden has started growing its first spear:

The big flax has about a dozen!

Take care, Rick and Nicky
