Then on Saturday morning, no longer on the top spot:
What a wonderful place we live in when the top news story is a cat-up-tree.
In other news, which didn’t make it into the local media, we celebrated our 15th anniversary of arriving in Aotearoa on Wednesday. We bought bagels from a recently opened shop in town and brought them home for lunch. We would have found a nice place to sit if we could but the wind was very chilly and not inviting. All the same, we enjoyed our Baconater and the smoked salmon, followed by a pot of tea:
Thursday was busy. Steve and Ros called in for lunch on their way past. They had some time with Nicky at the Community Library, and then came on to Tiramaroa. They brought goodies from Angel Louise (pasties and bacon and egg pie) and I had made fruit bread to accompany the cheese and crackers. Nicky added some home grown salad before she left. It was good to see them both again.
In the evening we collected Fiona and son-in-law Steve from down the road and went to a Candidates meeting at the War Memorial Centre in town. The local elections are looming and we wanted to get an idea of the candidates “mettle”. It was an interesting evening, aided by Fiona and Steve’s local political knowledge. We also enjoyed seeing inside the Centre for the first time, which looks like a very good facility.
Other than that, our week has been very routine. We didn’t get into the garden until the end of the week, dissuaded by the cold and at times wet weather, but things are starting to change. The flowing cherry is now producing some blossom:
I have done two more sailings on the Waimarie this weekend which have been good as I am starting to do more things, monitored as opposed to me observing. Steering is still a mighty challenge.
Covid restrictions have been lifted here this week, mask wearing now only required in medical facilities and rest homes. The Queen and King Charles’s accession to the throne are still the main news items on the TV, cats-in-trees not so much.
Take Care, Rick and Nicky
E&OE. Nicky hasn’t proof read this as she is on a bus on her way to Auckland.
