It's almost the end of summer
Apart from a couple of foggy starts, which didn’t last for long, we have had another week of mainly sunshine. It has been cooler and there has been a southerly breeze much of the time, but it has still been hot mid-afternoon and we have continued using the southern patios.
The weather has enabled Nicky to spend much time in the garden, but she is finding the Council’s water conservation request challenging, as she has not been watering the garden. The power supply to the pumps at one of the bores that supplies Whanganui failed during the recent storms, so it is only running at 50% capacity. She has also had a Friends of St John meeting, and Seniors Lunch and Life Group.
I have had a reasonable week with work, setting up a new Mac remotely and doing some other troubleshooting jobs. I have also helped Lyn across the road move three freezers, a bed, and assembled some shelving for her. My new hat arrived on Monday and has been pressed into service already.
On Wednesday we had the pleasure of Steve and Ros for lunch and dinner. Nicky made some seed bread to go with lunch, and we had takeaways for dinner. This gave me the opportunity to try out Spice Guru for the first time. Both Steve and I enjoyed our Indian dishes. Nicky and Ros enjoyed their roasts (a takeaway option with which the UK could really do). We finished the day with a FaceTime chat with Jancis.
We had been invited to Quasi’s, our new next door neighbour, for dinner on Thursday. Nicky made some plaited bread. We had a good evening with him and his lodger, Murray.
A friend of mine from Deep and Meaningful in Auckland, Kat, and her squeeze Israel, have moved to Palmerston North recently for his work. We invited them over for dinner last night. I spent the morning in the kitchen preparing stuffed chicken breasts and freekah salad, while Nicky worked in the garden. In the afternoon Nicky vacuumed and moped inside, while I swept the house and fence outside. It was good to see Kat again (she is a very lively lass) and meet Israel for the first time. It was a highly enjoyable evening.
Today I went into town with Nicky when she went to church, to do a brief bit of technology investigation. I had a pleasant amble home in the sunshine. Nicky gardened in the afternoon with me assisting a little. This evening will be with the telly box.
Take care, Rick and Nicky.
