More of the same

This week has been very similar to last week in terms of our day to day activities. When the weather has been dry we have been working outside. I have now got all the fence gaps filled on the eastern boundary and am making good progress on the western boundary. Nicky has planted grasses into the gabion baskets and started digging out the path which will be planted with Dichondra repens (Mercury Bay grass). The weather has again dictated the laundry schedule.

The most exciting news of the week was a phone call from my niece Rachel (in Wanaka) to say that she and Joel are now engaged. They have been together for a number of years now.  Rachel sounded so happy and excited. It was good to get their news and have a chat.

The less exciting news is that the last section of fence has been fitted at the front, next to where we plan to site a pedestrian gate:

Nicky enjoyed Senior Fellowship lunch on Tuesday at the Baptist Church, followed by Life Group on the other side of Whanganui. We also had an amble in the evening to take advantage of the sun at the end of the day now that we have changed the clocks. We have both enjoyed reading The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman, and his second book is now on order from the library. I have also had a little work.

We had a short visit from Frances (from up the road) with her niece and great-niece Ruby yesterday which was good. A quick catch-up and fun time watching the sheeplets in the paddock. Today Nicky made butterscotch and walnut muffins before going “home church streaming” at Joy’s again. Afterwards she joined me working in the garden. Late this afternoon we have been over to see Lyn and her posse of seven Cuban Havanese dogs. Lyn has a very colourful house and garden. She bought it about three years ago and has put much time, effort and money into its renovation. Unlike most native Kiwis, Lyn has chosen to paint in very vibrant colours, and the inside does look very good in purple, grey, apricot, pale apple green and white. The outside is eye catching in a Cuban lime green, orange and grey colour scheme. Though not colours that we would choose, it is good to see something different on the street.

The fruit trees are fully in blossom now all over Whanganui and we have really been enjoying the dogwood this week. This is the view through our bedroom window:

Take care, Rick.
