Normality?

Life has been getting back to a little more normal this week: Nicky has had a pretty good week at work, I have had a reasonable amount of work, and the weather went all bi-polar for a day and a half.

Nicky had morning tea with her old boss on Monday, and it went OK (which I think is a bit of surprise). The library hasn’t been too busy until towards the end of the week, and she had her hair done on Thursday.

I have work 4 out of 5 days, and on the other day I spent most of my time at my desk dealing with a couple of issues by email and organising some work for the coming week. I had my first swim of the year at Herne Bay on Tuesday morning and my bite-site scabs are now almost completely gone. On Friday Luna had a bit of pampering by having a new radio fitted. We can now receive NZ radio stations on FM, and connect iPads/iPhones etc. A good D&M meeting on Thursday was followed by a long, long chat with Valera (who also brought me home) afterwards. It was a very late night.

On Tuesday we had a cooler start to the day, and then it started to get windy. The wind continued through Wednesday and then was accompanied by rain on Thursday and Friday morning. We only got the edge of the storm system here, but it was pretty wet all the same. Within an hour or so of the rain stopping on Friday, we were back to blue skies and temperatures in the mid-20’s.

Yesterday after work Nicky went over to Stella’s for Scrabble with her, Steve and Ros. I went to a 70th birthday in Mt eden for one of my D&M friends which was very good. We arrived home within a few minutes of each other. Nicky made herself an omelette and I had some cheese and crackers later as I had spent most of the afternoon eating (so that the food could soak up my two glasses of wine before I got the bus home).

Today has been another nice day. After church Mary came round and had morning tea and lunch with Nicky, who then spent the afternoon sewing. I caught the 8am bus into town to go to Motutapu Island for a walk and a swim with some Free Beach naturists. Two gents turned up and we had a good long walk before a lunchtime swim, then another shorter walk back to Home Bay (below) where we had another swim while waiting for the return ferry. I suspect my legs will be a little stiff tomorrow but it was a good trip.

We have been enjoying watching Michael Wood’s The Great British Story on DVD this week, and we very pleased last night when he got to the English Civil War and saw my best man, Dr Martyn Bennett being interviewed. We only have two more episodes to go so might get it finished tonight.

Take care, Rick
