Last public holiday for awhile

We started the week with a public holiday to celebrate the Queen’s birthday. We had a pretty quiet day which was chilly and damp in parts, but Nicky managed to get the mowing done and we had a trip over to Henderson to play Scrabble with Stella, and squeezed in a visit to Kathmandu to get a new waterproof jacket for Nicky. It wasn’t the teal coloured one which she had seen on the website as that wasn’t as good “in the flesh”, but a very nice blue/purple Gortex one.

Nicky’s week at work had been very difficult and emotionally fraught. The future is still not clear for us. I have had quite a light week for work though Thursday was very busy. The weather has messed with my washing schedule but has improved as the week has gone on and we have had a lovely weekend. In past years we have had weather like this in early May, but not heading to the middle of June. While watching some of the Election coverage one the BBC website on Friday I saw a UK weather forecast, and it was very similar to ours!

Aside from the Election (interesting spectator sport and no, I didn’t vote, I didn’t get my ballot paper), I took Dawn (our landlady) and a friend of hers to the airport on Tuesday, and we had a “Curry and Mission” night at church on Thursday. I had not been fully appraised of the fact that it was curry and mission, but got through most of it none the less. My culinary contributions seem to be enjoyed. Nicky also had an Alpha evening.

Yesterday was a gentle Saturday. I popped over the road to see one of my customers and Nicky did some shopping in preparation for making jam roly-poly this morning. She also went to Henderson with Steve for Scrabble (Stella’s wrist fracture is improving). In the evening we watched a couple of episodes of Mapp and Lucia on DVD.

Today has again been sunny. After church Nicky went off to prison, and I continued with my birthday jigsaw which we started yesterday. Mary, Nicky’s quilting co-organiser dropped in for a chat, and I had a walk down to the beach and along some of the coast path (the number of steps seems to increase every time I do it and my knees get very irascible about them).

I have also realised that it is around 30 years ago (sometime this month) that I sat my last exam at university, the General Paper: “To err is human, to really foul things up use a computer. Discuss.” Did. Seem to have been doing so ever since!

Take care, Rick
