Half way there
As we approach the half-way point in the year I am feeling a bit of an element of surprise that we are there already. Next week we will have the shortest day and then start heading into the colder weather of July and August. The weather hasn’t been too bad this week, some sun and some showers, but I have got most of the washing dried outside.
I have had a little more work than last week, but it has still been very quiet really. The discussion at my meet-up group was very good this week so that made for a very enjoyable evening.
Nicky has had a busy week at the library, but the kites for the Matariki celebrations have been a source of frustration and annoyance despite all the positive effort she has devoted to them. She has had a couple of evenings out with a hair appointment and a prayer group.
Our major viewing this week has been Wolf Hall on DVD. We got through all six episodes and really enjoyed the telling of the story from Thomas Cromwell’s perspective. I haven’t read the books but I get the impression that they made a good fist of it, unlike Mockingjay 2 which we have also watched and found disappointing.
To celebrate the winter solstice I went off for a Polar Plunge skinny dip yesterday morning, which turned out to be very good. I was joined by 4 others, a couple of who are members of an Auckland Ocean Swimmers group, so I now know that a 14.2ÂșC sea temperature equates to “cold” on my scale, but not quite cold enough to stop me swimming. In the afternoon Nicky had a good BHB Quilters session.
Today started quite cool and cloudy, but by late morning the sun was breaking through and we had a good afternoon. Nicky headed off to prison followed by early afternoon Scrabble at Stella’s, so I took buses into town and walked the waterfront from Westhaven to Britomart and then up Queen Street for a bus home. We both read on the sofa for awhile when Nicky got back, and then had soup for tea. We will be settling down for the last of the Mastermind heats shortly.
Take care, Rick
