Hols

Nicky has been on holiday this week, and I have only had one Mac job, but we have spent most of the week at home because even though the weather has been dry and warm, we haven’t had a great deal of sun. N insisted on doing lots of cleaning (when she wasn’t on the web) and she did get her hair done.

Wednesday was sunny so after card shopping in Ponsonby we went to Muriwai, via the scenic route. We arrived just in time for a very good lunch at the Sand Dunz café (Nicky had chicken salad an I had a Gannet breakfast). After walking off our lunchtime calories on the beach we pitched camp for reading and snoozing.

Jancis came over on Thursday afternoon and we fitted in a few games of Mah Jongg before I went into town for my Meetup group. We saw Jancis again on Friday evening for the annual “fish and chips in the Bay at the free music event with Midge Marsden, again.” Coffee and hot chocolate was also consumed as the on-shore breeze was quite cooling while sitting. The music was good, the setting great, and this year it didn’t rain, which was brilliant. Earlier in the day Nicky had been up to the library to play Scrabble with a borrower (who takes it very seriously) while I went for a walk at Karekare. She made cakes and muffins in the afternoon, for an evening treat and Jancis’s birthday.

On Saturday there were a couple of local house auctions which we were interested in seeing, and an open home on Gill Crescent where we wondered what the views were like (very good it turned out). However, we started the day early with a trip to Hobsonville Point. This is an area of major residential development (on an old air base) and I had spotted an advertisement in the local paper for “model aircraft and giant kites” event. Well I know Nicky like kites, and seen as the weather was sunny and it was Valentines Day, off we went. The model aircraft were OK, but the kites (operated by one man and his lad) were a bit of a disappointment being few in number and hampered by lack of wind (they should have been in BHB the night before!). However, the Farmers Market was great, so we purchased duck paté, almond croissants and Dutch crackers, all of which we have thoroughly enjoyed eating. It was very interesting seeing the new development and ferry terminal as it is more than a couple of years since we have been to Hobsonville. We missed one of the house auctions and the other was a bit of a damp squib, if you can have damp squibs in hot sunshine.

This morning Nicky and been in prison and I have done the ironing. There has been Scrabbling in Henderson this afternoon and there will be much tellyboxing this evening with the two best drama’s of the week are being transmitted, along with repeats of Lewis.

Take care, Rick
