Getting over it
It has been a different sort of week, one way and another. Nicky took Monday off work to look after me and arranged Dr Vather to come and take a look at me. I was struggling to get to the toilet let alone the surgery so was very relieved to have a home visit. He diagnosed an infection in my semi-circular canals and prescribed appropriate medicine. I was able to spend some time out of bed on Monday evening.
The rest of my week has been one of recovering, taking down the Christmas decorations and disposing of the tree, doing the laundry and the shopping, and as little cooking as possible due to the lovely warm weather. Having said that, the Christmas period has not been as hot as usual. The “Dickensian” wreath which I stick to the outside of our front door with blu-tac hasn’t fallen off once this time. Usually gravity takes over every two or three days, helping the heat make the blu-tac give way.
Fortunately none of my customers have required my presence, I have just dealt with a couple of things by email. I think most of them will still be on holiday until next week. I have also scanned some very old family photos which Nicky found, and given Jancis some technical assistance.
Dawn, our landlady, arranged for a chap to come and take all the blinds down, take them away, clean and repair them, and then return and re-hang them. He did this on Thursday and they do look better, and it’s good that they all work again now.
Nicky has been busy at the library, and on days where there have been activities it has been manic. The school holidays always have an impact. However, we have had a couple of good TV evenings, one watching three episodes of Silk, and the other watching Arthur Christmas, and Aardman animation which I can recommended, especially during the season.
On Friday night I went out for a couple of beers, which in retrospect I should have know was not a good idea with not been fully recovered. I enjoyed the evening but felt very un-energetic yesterday. Encouraged by more gorgeous sunny summer weather, we had a quiet day at home reading, after breakfasting on the Rattigen. We didn’t spend that much time out in the sun because it was so hot. As the evening cooled things down we had a stroll down to the beach which was very pleasant. I was able to see the new children’s playground for the first time too.
Today has been lovely again. I went off to Karekare for a walk and a swim, and Nicky went to church. Stella and Steve were here just finishing their game of Scrabble when I got back. We have new drama series starting on the tellybox this evening, and that will be me done for the week.
Take care,
Rick
