Lilly's Back!

I seem to have had a very busy week, even though I haven't had much "proper work". My main task on Monday was to tackle the mountain of ironing that was threatening to take over the laundry. This wasn't so bad with the weather being a bit humid and damp, and I did some shopping for a bit of a break. We had takeaways on the beach with Stella and Co to finish the day which was good.

Jancis returned from a few days away so was able to take another look at her PC's problem with Word and finally managed to fix it. Might have made a breakthrough on the internet front to with finding a reasonably priced fixed-line provider who doesn't require a 12 month contract.

The proper work which I have done was for a lady down the road who I help even though she has a PC, because her main issues are with her iPod and iTunes. I also had a morning wrestling with fonts for a very nice new customer.

Nicky has been busy at the library, but things are still not back to "hectic" mode with lots of people being away on holiday. She had a special life group meeting on Wednesday to pray for one of their group who is very ill with cancer, and she managed to visit her on Saturday morning too.

Our major excitement of the week has been the return of Lilly, our lovely little green Polo. The panel beaters rang on Thursday afternoon to say I could collect her first thing on Friday morning. I walked down to New Lynn with Nicky and collected Lilly and she looks great. It is really good to have her back.

I have been having some quite bad toothache this week so finally went off to the dentist on Friday. He replaced a filling which was causing a problem, but there are other issues to address and I still have some pain and another appointment for next week.

The weather has been cooler and at times wetter this week, but Saturday dawned with clear blue skies. By breakfast time there was some cloud building but it didn't spoil our day. I cleaned and returned the car which we had been loaned by friends of Nicky's while Lilly was being repaired, and we packed up a picnic.

We were booked on a cruise on the Kaipara Harbour which departed from Parakai at 2.30. We left home quite early which turned out to be fortuitous as there was a car show on in Kumeu which meant there was a lot of traffic in the area and quite a few delays. We got to the warf with a bit of time to spare before our trusty boat arrived:

We started the cruise enjoying a the view from a seat at the front of the top deck. The wind was quite cool so after an hour or so we went downstairs for a cup of tea (and a cookie) and a different and warmer perspective. The skipper stopped every so often to point out items of interest, and it was very pleasant cruising along in the afternoon sun.

We got back to Parakai just before 6 in the evening, and then drove up to Shelly Beach to have our picnic. We had seen Shelly Beach from the boat and had fond memories of visiting on Nicky's birthday in 2011. That time the rain had been so thick that we couldn't see the end of the jetty, but yesterday the weather was grand. We picnicked by the beach and then went to the cafe for hot drinks. An excellent way to end a lovely day.

Today has been sunny and windy. Nicky went to church as usual this morning while I disposed of the ironing. We both went back to church at lunchtime for a BBQ to mark the departure of Glen, the pastor, who is moving on but staying in Auckland. Scrabbeling has taken place this afternoon, and this evening we will be watching the Downton Abby Christmas Special (I have to watch it to make sure Nicky stays awake!).

Take care,
Rick
