After Easter
Just incase you can't remember, last Monday was Easter Monday and therefore a public holiday. It was a lovely sunny day so we decided to go to Shakespear Regional Park on the Whangaparaoa peninsula, and while we were there, return some serving tongs to Clem and Pat which had got left behind at our house after our last family do.
I wanted to go to Pink Beach, but when we got to the park I missed getting into the car park I was planning to park in because I was just following the guy in front. We stopped in the middle of the park to look at the view, and decided to leave the car there. We started walking towards Pink Beach via a lookout point which gave us some spectacular views. However, Nicky needed to loo so we changed direction and headed downhill to the main beach at Te Haruhi Bay. This is a really nice beach and we ended up staying quite awhile and eating our picnic lunch. Rested and refreshed we started walking round the park to Pink Beach. Once we got there is realised it had far less sand than I remembered and was mainly rock, so it was fortuitous that we had been to the other beach. We carried on round the park at a gentle pace, chatting with some cows on the way. It was very pleasant, with lots of changing vistas and wonderful views while being easy walking on good tracks.
We departed mid-afternoon and called in on Clem and Pat for awhile and were plied with mugs of tea, and given fish, two of. We then motored on to Albany to go to the cinema to see the new Aardman film. "Pirates! Bunch of Misfits". It was not as funny as we expected but entertaining none the less. We felt the day had been a good way to end Nicky's holiday.
Nicky was back to work Tuesday and has had as busy a week as ever. I popped over to see Claire, did the ironing, and made a smoked fish pie with some of Clem's fish, which turned out to be very good. I based it on a Hairy Biker recipe. I have done one Mac job, and been to the skin clinic for a free check-up (everything OK).
The weather has been pretty good most of the week, but with some cloud towards the end with a bit of rain. Saturday started cloudy but was due to improve, so we got started on the laundry. By early afternoon we had blue skies and sunshine so got three loads dry. We nipped over to St Lukes to get a birthday present for Katie and to briefly see Claire in Whitcoulls, and then delivered Katies card and present and contributed to the Moss-Mason compost heap. Nicky made a birthday cake for Steve in readiness for tomorrow.
Today Nicky has been in prison again, and I drove out to Whatipu for a walk along the beach. After strolling along the beach for 2 hours I had got further North than I have been before, but still not got to the end. I had my lunch and turned round and headed back to the car. Looking at Google Maps it appears that the beach joins with Karekare beach, so I might go there next time and head south. I got home shortly before Steve and Ros arrived for Scrabble and cake. I made an ale house loaf for Nicky and I to have with some pumpkin soup for tea before we settled down to watch some telly before retiring to bed.
That's it for this week,
Take care, Rick
