Wonderful Wednesday
Nicky's week didn't go quite to plan. She only worked two full days instead of the four which were planned because of having very bad insomnia which started on Sunday night. She was just not sufficiently compos mentis on Monday and Tuesday to be able to work. Thursday and Friday were OK though.
Claire's week has been much as usual with Uny and Whitcoulls, and I have done some Mac work but not as much as the last couple of weeks.
Wednesday however was a very good day. Peter Cocker's cousin Bruce Eggerston and his wife Wendy have been on holiday on NZ, and had an eight hour stopover in Auckland on their way back to Canada. Nicky and I hired a car and went and collected them from the airport just after 12pm. We went off the the Botanic Gardens, had a wander for awhile, then lunch and a good chat, and then another wander round more of the gardens. By late afternoon we were very warm as the clouds has dispersed and we had another sun filled afternoon. We decided to go into Manakau in search of a beer or two for Bruce and Wendy and found a good bar which also served excellent garlic pizza bread. We returned them to the airport for 6 to catch their 8pm departure, after having a very enjoyable day.
When we got home Claire already had dinner preparations in hand with the Chicken Pie I had made the day before and some gorgeous date and raisin tea bread which Nicky had made. Jancis Barlow was joining us for diner prior to doing a learning to listen session for Nicky's Life Group who were meeting at our place. After diner the other life group members arrived, Claire went off to Ryan's and I disappeared into the office to watch Top Gear (I think). A full but enjoyable day.
Yesterday while Claire was doing her usual Saturday stint at Whitcoulls, Nicky went to a felting workshop in Ranui with the quilting ladies, and I went to the Auckland University Business School for Brain Day. This was being run by the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences and aims to raise peoples awareness of neurological issues. I listened to lectures on strokes, how to keep the brain healthy, and genes which affect personality. All very interesting. I bought myself some sushi for lunch ('cos I haven't had any for ages) and went and sat by the sea watching the boats at the ferry terminal will eating my lunch.
Today Nicky went to Kelston with Stella for a quilting exhibition which was really good, and then Steve came over for Scrabble. I have been doing laundry and ironing as we didn't get much done yesterday and the forecast is for a very wet start to the week.
That's all for now,
Take care, Rick
